Pipedream Labs announced that it has secured $13 million in financing with the goal of advancing its underground delivery robots project by implementing efficient delivery systems.

The company plans to use these funds to expand its “Instant Pickup” service and build its first large-scale underground network in a selected city. Initially, in December 2023, Pipedream launched its underground delivery system in collaboration with Curiosity Lab in Peachtree Corners, Georgia, demonstrating the viability of its technology in a real urban environment. This system allows users to receive products in extremely fast times , from shopping centers to an innovation center, marking a milestone in the field of urban logistics.

The funding round was led by Starship Ventures , with additional participation from Cortado Ventures, Myelin Ventures and other investors. These partners share Pipedream’s vision of overhauling logistics through fast and efficient underground solutions. Pipedream CEO Garrett McCurrach highlighted the success of the implementation in Peachtree Corners as a clear indication that they can replicate this model in other cities and connect similar infrastructure to buildings, offices and homes.

The “Instant Pickup” system is a central part of Pipedream’s strategy. This innovation allows grocery store, restaurant or retail store employees to load orders into a rear storage system. When customers arrive at the company’s kiosks, they can receive their orders in less than 15 seconds.

Pipedream also revealed that it has more than 100 pre-orders for the Instant Pickup system and plans to accelerate the rollout of these deliveries to its partners as quickly as possible. Likewise, the company will select a city this year to build its first half-mile underground transportation network, with the aim of making urban deliveries faster and cheaper.
