United States. TotalEnergies signed two long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) to supply 1 GW of solar capacity, equivalent to 28 TWh of renewable electricity over 15 years, to power Google’s data centers in Texas. The agreement, announced on February 9, is the largest renewable PPA signed by the company in the United States.

The power will be generated at the Wichita (805 MWp) and Mustang Creek (195 MWp) solar projects, currently under development in Texas, with construction scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2026.

New energy capacity for data centers and AI

The agreement responds to the growing electricity demand associated with the expansion of data centers and artificial intelligence applications, incorporating new generation capacity to the local electricity system in the ERCOT market, one of the most dynamic and demanding in the United States.

From Google, the company noted that the supply will help strengthen the stability, reliability and affordability of the regional power grid, while supporting its long-term decarbonization goals.

TotalEnergies’ largest renewable PPA in the US.

Marc-Antoine Pignon, vice president of Renewables US at TotalEnergies, noted that this deal represents the largest renewable PPA volume ever signed by the company in the country, and reinforces its strategy of offering tailored energy solutions for large digital players, in particular data center operators.

He also noted that the outline of the agreement addresses key industry challenges, such as land availability and power supply, through large-scale co-location opportunities.

Texas consolidates its role as a digital energy hub

These 1 GW PPAs complement 1.2 GW of agreements previously secured by Clearway, a California-based renewable energy company 50% owned by TotalEnergies, to support Google’s data centers in the ERCOT (Texas), PJM (Northeast) and SPP (Midwest) markets. The set of agreements consolidates Texas as one of the main energy hubs for digital infrastructure in the United States.

TotalEnergies has a gross portfolio of 10 GW of solar, wind and battery storage assets in operation in the United States, including 5 GW in the ERCOT market and 400 MW in PJM, positioning it as a key provider of clean energy to large industrial and technology consumers.

The Wichita and Mustang Creek solar projects will generate hundreds of jobs during the construction phase and significant tax revenue, which will contribute to utility funding and local community development over the life of the projects.
