TotalEnergies and OQ Alternative Energy ( OQAE ) have signed an agreement to develop 300 megawatts of renewable energy in Oman. This project reflects a joint commitment to advance sustainability, reduce emissions and diversify energy sources in the country, aligning with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.
The project between TotalEnergies and OQAE
The initiative involves the construction of three flagship projects that will integrate solar and wind energy to supply Petroleum Development Oman ( PDO ) through long-term off-take agreements. Strategically located in the north and south of Oman, the developments will begin construction in 2025, where they are expected to produce electricity by the end of 2026. In total, more than 1.4 terawatt-hours of renewable electricity will be generated annually, strengthening the country’s clean energy capacity.
These projects are a key pillar of Oman’s energy transition, contributing to the goal of covering 30% of the country’s energy capacity with renewable sources by 2026. As a national leader in sustainable energy, OQAE underlined its commitment to economic growth and technological innovation in its operations. Najla Zuhair Al Jamali, CEO of OQAE, highlighted that this collective effort consolidates Oman’s position as a benchmark in sustainable initiatives.
TotalEnergies Senior Vice President for Renewables Olivier Jouny said that this project reaffirms the company’s integrated multi-energy strategy in Oman. The collaboration with OQAE, he said, is important to support the country’s energy transition and ensure reliable renewable electricity for PDO in the long term.
This agreement underlines Oman’s move towards a diversified and low-emission energy model, marking a new chapter in the global fight against climate change. With sustainable investments and strategic partnerships, TotalEnergies and OQAE consolidate their role as leaders in the transition to a cleaner future.
