The technological development of heavy engineering continues to advance in China, following the release of the world’s largest cylinder. On October 15, CCCC Second Harbour Engineering , a subsidiary of CCCC , announced the successful release of the giant cylinder from the production line at the Hengli Hydraulics plant in Changzhou, Jiangsu.
The largest cylinder in the world
This cylinder has an internal diameter of 1.6 metres and a stroke length of 21 metres, breaking all previous records. With a nominal thrust of 5,000 tonnes, it has the capacity to generate the force equivalent to pushing 1,000 African elephants at the same time. All these features position the cylinder as a great reference in the operation of pilot vessels for large-scale marine projects .
For many years, the country depended on importing components such as seals and special coatings for cylinders. However, with this development, this dependence has been broken, opening up new opportunities for domestic manufacturing.
The cylinder will be used on pilot vessels with 150-meter structures, which are critical for large infrastructure projects such as the construction of offshore bridges and deepwater wind energy platforms . The technology developed in this cylinder reinforces China’s ability to lead in the marine engineering sector and provide innovative solutions globally.
This cylinder will be installed on CCCC ’s new pilot vessel , which will be operational later this year as part of the construction of the world’s longest high-speed railway bridge across Hangzhou Bay. This development is just the beginning of a series of innovations that CCCC Second Harbour Engineering will continue to introduce in the field of marine engineering.
