Ecopetrol Launches Econova Antioquia: A Hub for Colombia’s Electric Future

This technology and innovation center aims to seek profitable and sustainable energy options for the South American country.

The Ecopetrol Group has inaugurated Econova Antioquia, a new innovation center dedicated to the development of electric energy projects and other technologies. It is located on the campus of the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in Medellín, with the objectives of promoting sustainability and the integration of new technologies in the electricity sector.

This center has a network of high-tech laboratories to develop prototypes that optimize the country’s electrical infrastructure and improve energy efficiency. Econova will also be a collaborative space for academics, companies and industry representatives, who will be able to work on energy solutions that promote a more accessible, economic and resilient service.

At the inauguration ceremony, Luis Felipe Rivera, Ecopetrol’s Vice President of Science, Technology and Innovation, mentioned that Econova Antioquia will be an essential enabler to accelerate Colombia’s energy transformation, fostering collaboration between the public, private and academic sectors. The center will operate under the management of CIDET, an institution with more than 25 years of experience in the electricity sector, recognized by the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Econova Antioquia’s main projects include the National Laboratory of the Electric Sector, which will evaluate and certify new technologies, and the National Laboratory of Energy Communities, focused on the creation of decentralized and sustainable energy models. In addition, the center will work on the prospective of human talent, helping to define the needs of qualified personnel for the electricity sector towards 2030 and 2040.

Econova Antioquia is the fifth innovation center of the Ecopetrol GroupThe centers are located in Bogota, Santander, Meta and the Caribbean region, which address issues such as decarbonization, sustainability and technologies of the fifth industrial revolution. These centers are supported by the Colombian Institute of Petroleum and Transition Energies.
