SunCable has received conditional approval from Singapore’s Energy Market Authority (EMA) to proceed with the development of the ambitious Australia-Asia PowerLink (AAPowerLink) project . This achievement marks a significant step in the transition to clean energy in the Asia-Pacific region.
The AAPowerLink project will connect Australia and Singapore
The AAPowerLink project aims to supply up to 1.75 GW of green electricity generated from solar and wind energy from Australia to Singapore, using a high-voltage submarine cable of more than 4,300 km in length. This infrastructure will allow Singapore to diversify its energy mix and reduce its dependence on fossil fuels.
Mitesh Patel, Acting CEO of SunCable International, highlighted the importance of this project, stressing that in addition to strengthening Singapore’s energy resilience, it will also contribute to job creation and the growth of green industry in both Australia and Indonesia.
EMA supports SunCable project
The EMA approval follows a number of significant milestones for SunCable, including environmental approval from the Australian Government and progress in commercial discussions with industrial customers in Singapore. The company has already invested more than AUD250 million in the development of the project, reinforcing its commitment to clean energy globally.
Electricity demand in Asia and the Pacific is expected to grow by 70% by 2040 , and the AAPowerLink project puts SunCable in a key position to meet this demand through renewable energy solutions and submarine cable technology.
