SUNOTEC is planning to build a 400 MWp solar farm with 600 MWh storage batteries in the parish of Lazas, Dienvidkurzeme municipality, Latvia.

The solar project will be integrated into the power grid

This European renewable energy developer has completed the acquisition of 100% of SIA DSE Lazas Solar from the Danish firm Danish Sun Energy ApS. The project, which has been authorized for construction since June 2025, includes a 330 kV substation connected to the national transmission line. The construction phase will begin before the end of the year and the farm is expected to be in commercial operation by March 2027.

The solar panels will be installed on single-axis tracking structures, which allow the modules to be oriented to the east and west. This system increases the efficiency of the park, extending the hours of effective generation during the morning and afternoon, and is estimated to provide 11% more annual production compared to traditional south-facing installations.

In addition, SUNOTEC seeks to consolidate its participation in the development of co-located projects, which integrate solar generation with battery storage. This strategy responds to the challenges of flexibility and security in the grid, while promoting the electrification of key sectors with renewable energy.

Danish Sun Energy, which began development of the project in 2021, was responsible for obtaining all the necessary permits and technical designs to make it ready for construction. The Danish firm thus consolidates its position as a leading developer ofgreenfield projects in the Baltic and southern Europe.

This project has an estimated investment of up to €245 million, will contribute to the installed capacity of solar power in Latvia while representing a breakthrough in the deployment of coupled generation and storage systems in Europe. SUNOTEC continues to expand its clean energy footprint, with more than 650 projects executed and total installed capacity exceeding 11 GW on the continent.
