Stena Bulk has just taken a strategic step in its ambition to transform the infrastructure for liquefied natural gas transfer. The Swedish company has appointed Seasystems AS as its exclusive global partner to commercialize and deploy its patented, jettyless LNG technology solutions.

Floating LNG terminals that defy the conventional

Innovation revolves around the mooring system Extended FSU/FSRU (EFM) and the jettyless floating terminal (JFT), developed to operate without the need for fixed berths. Both solutions allow LNG to be transferred and stored from near-shore or even offshore locations, eliminating the need for complex onshore infrastructure.

Thanks to their modular design and autonomous operation, these systems offer an efficient alternative for countries that face geographical limitations or lack coastal infrastructure. The JFT system, for example, requires only adequate depth to operate, making it a viable option even in remote areas.

The alliance allows Seasystems to handle the promotion, sale and delivery of these technologies, while Stena Bulk retains the intellectual property of the patents. With this move, both companies seek to consolidate a standardized solution for the transferencia LNG transfer transfer solution for the global market.

Stena Bulk’s strategic vision

Göran Hermansson, Managing Director of LNG worldwide at Stena Bulk, highlighted that this agreement responds to a global scaling strategy of its floating solutions.

Our goal is to provide secure and cost-effective infrastructure that accelerates the energy transition, especially in emerging markets that require flexible solutions.

The executive pointed out.

Floating technologies as an energy catalyst

This partnership reinforces the role of LNG as a key source in the transition to a cleaner energy system. The jetty-free solutions represent a viable alternative to increase accessibility to LNG, minimizing environmental impact and initial investment.

The collaboration between Stena Bulk and Seasystems could be one of the most influential pieces in the expansion of floating LNG infrastructure infrastructure in the coming years.
