The Stellantis Group’s Vigo plant, in collaboration with Prosolia Energy, has inaugurated the largest rooftop solar plant for self-consumption in Spain, creating a solar infrastructure that sets a new standard in the country’s industrial sector.
The largest rooftop solar plant
With 33,000 solar panels spread over a surface area of 170,000 square meters, this plant has an installed capacity of 18.3 megawatts peak ( MWp ), generating 22.7 gigawatt hours (GWh) annually. This production will cover 15% of the plant’s electricity needs, avoiding the emission of more than 9,000 tons of CO2 each year.
Through a power purchase agreement ( PPA ), Prosolia Energy will operate the facility, ensuring the supply of renewable energy directly to the production center. The investment, which exceeds €12 million, reflects both companies’ commitment to the transition toward decarbonized energy models.
This project is aligned with Stellantis’ ” Dare Forward 2030 ” strategy, which aims to achieve carbon neutrality across its entire value chain by 2038. The Vigo factory thus positions itself as a benchmark within the ” Green Factory ” model, prioritizing the use of green energy, resource efficiency, and the electrification of its processes.
Both companies emphasize that this initiative reduces environmental impact and improves competitiveness by ensuring a stable and sustainable supply of electricity . The city of Vigo joins the plants in Madrid and Zaragoza , consolidating the group’s commitment to an automotive industry aligned with global climate goals.
The photovoltaic plant represents a concrete step in the pursuit of energy autonomy and operational efficiency. This integration of clean technologies strengthens Stellantis ‘ role in improving the Spanish industrial model toward an energy-conscious and environmentally responsible future.
