Norwegian energy company Statkraft has inaugurated in Jerez de la Frontera its tenth renewable energy facility in Andalusia: the El Rancho solar plant. This new photovoltaic photovoltaic plant reinforces the company’s presence in the region with an installed capacity of 44.5 MW, enough to cover the average annual energy consumption of more than 30,000 homes.
About the El Rancho solar plant
Located in the province of Cadiz, the El Rancho plant contributes to the generation of green energy and also represents an economic boost for the area. During its construction, 282 jobs were generated, 44% of which corresponded to workers from Cádiz. In addition, Statkraft made purchases worth 1.6 million euros from 58 local companies.
Multiple biodiversity protection measures have been deployed at El Rancho. From wildlife crossings to plantings of aromatic species for pollinators, the plant has been designed as an example of environmental integration. Bird nesting boxes, anti-collision beacons, drinking troughs and a 3.5 km overhead power line have also been dismantled.
Statkraft, in collaboration with the Migres FoundationFoundation, has an annual conservation plan in place valued at close to two million euros, with initiatives focused on endangered species such as the Andalusian bullfinch and the imperial eagle.
Andalusia, epicenter of the energy transition
The autonomous community has reached 14,500 MW of installed renewable capacity, positioning itself as a leader in clean production at the national level. In this context, Statkraft already has 500 MW of installed capacity between Cadiz, Seville and Tarifa.
The company’s plants in Cadiz have been recognized for their high sustainability standards and for implementing scholarship, training and circular economy promotion programs. With El Rancho, Statkraft reaffirms its commitment to Andalusia as a key axis of its solar and wind strategy in Spain.
