In a new step for Italy’s energy security, Eni has started gas production at the Argo Cassiopea field, located in the Strait of Sicily. This project represents a crucial step forward in the company’s strategy to strengthen the supply of gas gas supply.
The gas comes from one of the four recently drilled subsea wells recently drilled and is transported through a 60 km subsea pipeline to the processing plant in Gela. From there, the gas will be processed and then injected into the national grid, making a significant contribution to the country’s energy needs.
Gas production with a strong environmental commitment
Operated in conjunction with Energean, the Argo Cassiopea project has started production only three years after the start of construction, with a focus on sustainability. Production takes place entirely under the sea, minimizing visual impact and with near-zero emissions. In addition, the project has an installation of photovoltaic panels of 3.6 MWp, which will enable carbon neutrality to be achieved for Scope 1 and 2 emissions.

With reserves estimated at around 10 billion m3 of gas, Argo Cassiopea is a centerpiece of the company’s strategy to increase the use of domestic gas as a low-emission source. strategy to increase the use of domestic gas as a low-emission source.
