The Spot the Station mobile application offers an augmented reality interface that allows you to locate the International Space Station from Earth in real time. This innovative application is now available on both Android and iOS.

The International Space Station (ISS) is essentially a small science city floating in space, orbiting the Earth in low Earth orbit. It functions as a research laboratory and a center for the synthesis of knowledge in fields such as astronomy, astrobiology, meteorology and physics. In addition, this project has the collaboration of space agencies such as NASA (United States), Roscosmos (Russia), the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (Japan), the Canadian Space Agency (Canada) and the European Space Agency (Europe).

To facilitate observation and know the current position of the International Space Station, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration has developed the mobile application in collaboration with the ISS Program of the NASA Space Operations Mission Directorate and the Center of Excellence for Collaborative Innovation.

What does Spot the Station offer?

Spot the Station, on both Android and iOS, provides users with a tool to locate the International Space Station from Earth, making it easier to explore. In addition to expanding access to related news, the application offers an augmented reality interface that helps locate the station and allows sharing multimedia content of sightings in real time.

For those interested, there is an eponymous web platform, Spot the Station, where users can sign up to receive notifications about upcoming spotting opportunities from their location. Although the application is already available on both platforms, NASA plans to continue improving and updating it in response to feedback received from users, according to the US space agency in a statement.
