Eiffage, through its Belgian subsidiary Smulders, has entered into a strategic agreement to acquire 100% of HSM Offshore Energy, a leading provider of EPCIC (engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning) solutions in the offshore energy sector.
With this acquisition, Smulders will further strengthen its capability to tackle large-scale projects in the marine energy market, particularly in the construction of marine substations and the implementation of solutions for offshore platforms .
The trajectory of HSM Offshore Energy
HSM Offshore Energy , headquartered in the Rotterdam region, is recognized for its expertise in the engineering and manufacturing of key components for the offshore wind energy sector. Founded in 1914, the company has been a key player in the implementation of sustainable energy projects, particularly in the field of marine substations for offshore wind farms.
With an annual turnover of nearly €300 million and a workforce of 140, HSM has demonstrated its ability to lead multidisciplinary projects ranging from design and engineering to the connection and commissioning of marine facilities.
The acquisition strengthens the Eiffage Group’s position in the competitive offshore energy market and complements Smulders’ expertise in the construction of complex steel structures, including HVAC substation decks and structures. The two companies, which already collaborate on ancillary equipment integration projects off the coast of Germany and Belgium, will benefit from operational synergies by combining their capabilities in the design and execution of large-scale offshore projects.
This agreement comes at a time when the offshore renewable energy market is booming, with accelerated growth in offshore wind projects. The collaboration between Smulders and HSM Offshore Energy is expected to provide a more robust and efficient offering in this ever-expanding sector.
The transaction, which is subject to approval by competition authorities, represents a significant step for Eiffage and Smulders, consolidating their position as leaders in the construction and operation of sustainable energy infrastructure in Europe.
