The SLB OneSubsea joint venture, which specializes in subsea technology, has been selected by Equinor to carry out the upgrade of the subsea compression system in the Gullfaks field in the North Sea. The new engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract involves the delivery of two compressor modules to replace those originally installed in 2015.

These new systems will increase the differential pressure and improve the production flow rate, resulting in higher hydrocarbon recovery. hydrocarbon recovery recovery and significantly extend the life of the reservoir. Integration of the modules into existing infrastructure will minimize operational downtime and optimize subsea campaign costs.

Efficient and sustainable subsea compression

The Gullfaksfield, operated by the Norwegian company Equinor, was a pioneer in the application of fully submerged multiphase compression. The current upgrade consolidates this technological commitment through a more efficient and sustainable solution, contributing to an operation with less environmental impact. In this sense, subsea compression has advantages over surface solutions, such as lower energy consumption and lower CO2 emissions during the entire life cycle.

With a presence in more than 100 countries, SLB and its subsea subsidiary OneSubsea, backed by Aker Solutions and Subsea7, continue to consolidate their role as key suppliers in the transition to more efficient production. This award reaffirms a trusted relationship with Equinor and demonstrates the value of deploying advanced technologies to address energy challenges in complex offshore environments.
