SLB and Aker Carbon Capture(SLB-ACC JV) has been selected by CO280 Solutions to perform the front-end engineering and design(FEED) of a large-scale carbon capture plant. This plant will be located on the U.S. Gulf Coast and will be designed to remove up to 800,000 tons of carbon per year, providing a permanent and verifiable solution for the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions(CDR).

The pulp and paper industry in North America is a source of carbon emissions, with a disposal potential of up to 130 million tons per year. By capturing and storing these emissions, a negative emissions effect is achieved, because more carbon dioxide is removed from the environment.
The managing director of SLB-ACC JV, Egil A. Fagerland, stressed the importance of this contract as a breakthrough in their collaboration with CO280. Fagerland expressed his expectation to continue working together to develop the carbon capture plant, using the conceptual design based on the Just Catch 400 modular technology. This technology, which has proven effective in other industrial sectors such as bioenergy, cement and waste-to-energy, allows for efficient prefabrication of the carbon capture units.
CO280 executive director Jonathan Rhone cited the value of strategic partnerships in moving toward eliminating megatons of carbon by 2030. Rhone affirmed the capture and permanent storage of biogenic CO₂ in plants, a great opportunity to reduce emissions in industries can be seized.
This agreement comes on the heels of recent announcements regarding the collaboration of SLB-ACC JV and CO280 to develop carbon sequestration projects. carbon capture projects in the United States and projects in the United States and Canada, as well as its partnership with Microsoft to expand the entire carbon removal value chain in the region.
