Energy multinational Shell has executed a significant strategic move in its business portfolio by agreeing to sell Jiffy Lube International and Premium Velocity Auto (PVA) to investment firm Monomoy Capital Partners for $1.3 billion.
Jiffy Lube Sale Marks Strategic Move by Shell
The transaction involves the transfer of the well-known Jiffy Lube automotive service center network, comprising more than 2,000 franchises and company-owned shops in the United States. It also includes the acquisition of PVA, the second-largest franchise in the system, with presence in 20 states.
Shell will retain its Pennzoil, Quaker State, and Rotella brands, as well as control of lubricant manufacturing and distribution in the United States and Canada. This allows the company to continue leading the automotive oils segment without relying on direct operation of service centers.
Monomoy Expands in Automotive Market
With this acquisition, Monomoy Capital Partners strengthens its presence in the light vehicle services sector, adding an established brand with millions of customers and an extensive operations network. It also inherits a long-term supply agreement with Shell, ensuring continuity in the quality of lubricants used at its facilities.
A Divestment to Reinvest with Higher Returns
According to Shell, the decision responds to a strategy of focusing on key assets that generate higher profitability. Although Jiffy Lube represents approximately 6.5% of the total volume of its lubricants business in North America, its sale allows the company to redirect capital toward other priority areas.
The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to close in the second half of 2026.
Shell Maintains Commitment to U.S. Market
With operations in all 50 states and an extensive network of more than 12,000 service stations, Shell reaffirms that the United States remains a strategic market. The company will continue supplying energy, fuels, and refined products, aligned with its goal of leading the energy transition profitably.
The sale of Jiffy Lube marks a significant shift in how Shell approaches its presence in the automotive retail sector, focusing on its most competitive core business.
