SFL Corporation has confirmed an agreement valued at approximately $170 million for the use of its Hercules rig off the East Coast of Canada. The contract was signed with a leading investment-grade oil and gas multinational and covers a minimum period of 400 days, starting in the first quarter of 2027.

The floating unit, currently located in Norway, will be mobilized later this year for subsequent deployment in Canadian deep waters. This operation is part of a strategy that strengthens SFL’s presence in maritime areas characterized by harsh environmental conditions.

Operational preparation of the Hercules rig

The transfer and commissioning of Hercules will be managed by Odfjell Drilling, an offshore operator with extensive experience in asset management under extreme demands. This collaboration will ensure the continuous operation of the equipment and compliance with the technical requirements of the campaign.

SFL, which has been listed on the New York Stock Exchange since 2004, has built a diverse portfolio of maritime assets including bulk carriers, tankers, container ships, and offshore units. The company is characterized by a solid long-term chartering policy, which supports its sustained growth and distribution capacity.

Industry outlook and strategic positioning

According to Ole B. Hjertaker, CEO of SFL Management AS, this award is a sign of the growing interest in rigs adapted to extreme environments, with prospects for increased demand toward the end of the decade. The early positioning of Hercules represents a key competitive advantage for future North Atlantic exploration campaigns.

This new contract reinforces SFL’s role as a reliable provider in the offshore oil and gas value chain, betting on robust technology and operational adaptability to face increasingly complex scenarios.
