The Seahorse Freight Association (SFA) held the annual edition of its Journalism Awards, an event focused on the global transportation and logistics field. This year, the awards set records in both the number and diversity of submissions received, with a total of 360 entries from 60 journalists from around the world, demonstrating the growing impact of these awards on the industry.

The Seahorse Freight Association’s reach in the industry

The event brought together experts and professionals from the freight, air cargo, maritime and logistics sectors in an atmosphere of recognition and celebration. Each of the award winners was selected by an independent jury that highlighted their exceptional contribution to specialized journalism.

Journalist Anastasiya Simsek was awarded the coveted title of Seahorse Journalist of the Year for her outstanding work in air cargo, freight forwarding and logistics. Her work has been instrumental in unraveling complex industry developments, from urgent changes to in-depth analysis of topics such as sustainability, resilience and supply chain digitization.

Simsek expressed his appreciation during the ceremony, saying that journalism in this sector informs and helps transform the way industry players understand and address global challenges.

The Seahorse Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Nancy Karigithu, a leading advocate for seafarers and current Advisor for the Blue Economy in the Executive Office of the President of Kenya. Karigithu has been a key figure in representing Kenya at the International Maritime Organization and in the development of technical cooperation programs in Africa.

The Seahorse Personality of the Year Award went to the Lloyd’s Register Foundation’s “She Sees” exhibition, which, under the direction of photographer Emile Sandy, has revealed hidden stories of pioneering women in the maritime industry. This exhibition has been special in promoting gender diversity in a historically male-dominated sector, and continues to have a significant impact on the way women’s role in the industry is perceived.

Journalism in the transportation industry leads by example, showing how inclusion and diversity strengthen the sector.
