Seadrill reactivates West Capella with 157 million contract in Malaysia

Offshore drilling company Seadrill Limited has announced the award of contracts for its West Capella, West Elara and West Carina vessels.
Los acuerdos abarcan operaciones estratégicas en Malasia, Noruega y Brasil, reforzando la posición de la empresa en el mercado global de perforación

Seadrill Limited has announced the award of strategic contracts for three of its drilling rigs, marking an important step forward in its global operational expansion. The Bermudian company, which trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol SDRL, confirmed agreements worth a combined value of approximately $235 million that will boost its operations over the next two years.

The ultra-deepwater drillship West Capella has secured the most significant contract in Malaysia, where it will work for an operator whose identity has not been disclosed. This rig will commence a well-based program during the second quarter of 2026, with an estimated duration of 440 days.

West Elara signs accommodation agreement with Equinor in Norway

In Norwegian waters, the West Elara platform has secured a hosting contract with state-owned oil company Equinor AS on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. This agreement, valued at $78 million, is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2026 and extend through the fourth quarter of 2027. The contract also includes three options valued at three months each, which could extend operations until mid-2028.

The collaboration with Equinor represents what CEO Simon Johnson described as a harmonious solution to avoid potential disruption to rig operations. This collaborative approach with customers has become a hallmark of Seadrill, enabling the company to create value for all stakeholders while maintaining the operational efficiency of its fleet.

Extension of West Carina’s contract in Brazil until April 2026

Completing the package of contract announcements, Seadrill confirmed the extension of the current West Carina platform contract in Brazil until April 2026. Although the specific financial terms of this extension were not disclosed, the decision to continue operations in Brazilian waters reflects sustained customer confidence in Seadrill’s technical capabilities.

Brazil represents one of the most important offshore drilling markets in the world, especially in the deepwater and ultra-deepwater segment where Seadrill concentrates its operations. The Brazilian pre-salt region continues to be the focus of intense exploration and development activity, creating ongoing opportunities for specialized contractors such as Seadrill.
