Scanna, a UK company with more than 25 years of experience in radiographic technology, consolidates its transition into the non-destructive testing sector non-destructive testing (NDT) sector (NDT) with a global, innovative approach focused on operational efficiency. Managing Director Gilles Stevens shared at the PANNDT Conference 2025 how the company has managed to adapt its technological developments, which originated in security and defense, to the current demands of industrial inspection.

Industrial inspection and portable NDT technologies

With a background in providing digital solutions for law enforcement, military and bomb squads, Scanna has applied this expertise to the NDT world. Its products include flat panel detectors and proprietary software, optimized to facilitate the operator’s daily work. The key to its proposal lies in offering fast, deployable, autonomous and robust systems that meet the highest standards of image quality and wireless operation.

Although headquartered in London, Scanna operates globally. It also has offices in Sarasota (Florida) and a laboratory in Michigan, which allows them to effectively cover the North American market. Its presence also extends to Europe and Asia, and although there is no official confirmation, Stevens does not rule out a future expansion into South America.

During the interview, Gilles highlighted a case in rope access applications where operators use radiographic inspection equipment inside portable armored bags. This allows them to work at height with lightweight and complete systems, which increases their efficiency. This need for field-adapted solutions has guided the design of accessories and tools developed by the company.

The company provides customized training and support in different time zones thanks to its network of distributors and technical personnel. This strategy allows operators to take full advantage of the capabilities of each system, consolidating the turnkey solution concept that defines its business model.

The company considers face-to-face meetings crucial to foster knowledge sharing and keep abreast of industry trends. Scanna has therefore confirmed its participation in ASNT, which will be held in October in Orlando, near its Florida headquarters.
