The completion ceremony for the new building, which will serve as the operations and maintenance (O&M) base for the offshore wind farm, was held in the port of Thorsminde 5 days ago. Thor. The event was attended by representatives of RWE and the Danish construction company Østermark Entreprenørforretning, as well as municipal authorities, local companies and local residents.

This 2,300 m², three-story central building will include a control room, offices, warehouses and technical areas that will allow the park to operate efficiently. Its construction marks a fundamental step in the project’s infrastructure, which will generate an estimated 50 to 60 permanent local jobs.

A strategic operations and maintenance base

RWE plans to use Thorsminde as a support base for the Thor wind complex for at least 30 years. Starting in the spring of 2026, service vessels are expected to depart daily from the port to transport technicians responsible for the maintenance of the installed offshore turbines.

The CEO of RWE Renewables Denmark, Pernille Asgaard Haaning, highlighted the key role of the community in advancing the project and underlined the company’s commitment to sustainable development in the region.

Technical advances and sustainability

The Thor offshore wind farm wind farm will have an installed capacity of 1,080 MW and will will supply more than one million Danish households.. Work is progressing on schedule, including foundations and cable laying. Installation of the 72 wind turbines is scheduled for 2026, with commissioning scheduled for 2027.

Thor will be a pioneer in incorporating reduced carbon footprint steel towers and 50% recyclable blade turbines and turbines with recyclable blades in 50% of its structure. This approach reinforces its position as a model for offshore energy with advanced environmental criteria.

International participation and wind power leadership

The project is led by RWE, which owns 51% of the project, in partnership with Norges Bank Investment Management (49%). RWE assumes full responsibility for the construction and operation of the wind farm throughout its life cycle.

With this development, RWE strengthens its role as a global benchmark in offshore wind energy, adding Thor to its portfolio of projects such as Sofia in the United Kingdom, Nordseecluster in Germany and OranjeWind in the Netherlands.
