RWE commissions Semco Maritime to service offshore substations

RWE will implement a unified offshore maintenance model, managed by a single specialized technical team.
Contrato de mantenimiento offshore

Starting in the third quarter of 2025, RWE Offshore Wind GmbH has signed a framework agreement with Semco Maritime GmbH for the provision of offshore maintenance, which includes both routine work as well as the handling of incidents at offshore wind farm substations substations located at offshore wind farms. The contract will run until the end of 2027, with an option to extend for an additional two years.

This agreement provides for interventions at key facilities such as Amrumbank West, Nordsee Ost, Kaskasi (all in the North Sea) and Arkona (located in the Baltic). These structures are essential for the transmission of electricity from the wind turbines to the wind turbines to the mainland.

Scope of offshore maintenance and centralized approach

The agreement covers surface services related to auxiliary equipment, including fault diagnosis, preventive and corrective maintenance. The special feature of this contract is that the entire maintenance plan will be executed by a single multidisciplinary technical team, which will reduce costs and improve operational coordination.

In addition, RWE is considering extending the scope of the contract to include the future facilities of the Nordseeclusterfacilities, currently in the start-up phase. The integration of these new assets will depend on the progress of the joint project between RWE and Norges Bank Investment Management.

Strengthening an expanding partnership

Semco Maritime and RWE had already started a business relationship in 2023, which is now strengthened with this new long-term agreement. According to Klaus Iversen Grau, Senior Director Service Projects at Semco Maritime, the company’s established presence in strategic areas in northern Germany facilitates the efficient implementation of solutions tailored to the offshore environment.

With this award, RWE is committed to a unified and specialized maintenance model that will allow it to increase the reliability of its marine assets while optimizing technical resources in an industry where operational efficiency is key to profitability.
