The Lasbek wind farm has entered a new phase thanks to RWE, which has succeeded in replacing six old turbines with four state-of-the-art ones. The result: a total installed capacity of 22.8 megawatts, more than twice as much as before, with an optimized design that takes up less space and increases electricity production fivefold.
The new wind farm as a regional driving force
Located in the district of Stormarn, Schleswig-Holstein, the renovated wind farm can supply approximately 18,000 households with green electricity. This upgrade is part of a repowering strategy that leverages existing infrastructure with modern technology, significantly increasing energy efficiency without expanding the territorial footprint.

Circular economy and sustainability in action
One of the most innovative elements of the project is the participation in the BladeReUse program, driven by the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). Three removed rotor blades will be used as part of noise barriers along freeways, integrating durable composite materials into infrastructure solutions.
Other components of the old turbines will be stored as spare parts for other RWE facilities, promoting a model based on the reuse of materials and the circular economy within the wind sector.
RWE strengthens its presence in the German wind power market
This project is part of the sustained growth of RWE in Germanywhere it currently operates 760 MW of onshore wind farms and is building an additional 145 MW of new facilities. Lasbek’s modernization reflects its focus on maximizing the efficiency of its assets without the need to multiply infrastructure.
