RWE and Neuland Hambach solidify their partnership that directly targets the future of solar energy in the local municipalities concerned. Hambach’s entry with a 49 % stake in a photovoltaic plant enables a cooperation that has shown concrete results.
Strategic alliance secures solar energy technology
The solar power plant near Niederzier will generate around 14 megawatt peaks and has been operational since the summer of 2025. The scale of the development becomes clear when considering the more than 109,000 photovoltaic modules in operation. Together, they reach a power of 61 MWp, enough to cover the annual electricity consumption equivalent to about 19,000 households. In addition, the associated battery, with a capacity of 8 megawatt hours, makes it possible to adjust the injection of electricity and respond more flexibly to demand.
On the other hand, the participation structure offers municipalities a direct way to get involved in new renewable projects promoted by RWE. This formula strengthens the social acceptance of the energy transition and consolidates long-term economic benefits at the local level.
Finally, the initiative is part of a broader strategy to expand renewable energies in the Rhineland region, where RWE already operates multiple wind farms and solar plants, several of them combined with storage. The development in Hambach thus presents itself as a tangible example of land conversion linked to clean energy generation.
