The Port of Rotterdam Authority has announced the development of a new dedicated offshore wind terminal to be built on a 45-hectare site at the northwest end of Maasvlakte. This project aims to support the expansion of offshore wind energy by providing the necessary infrastructure for the storage, transportation, assembly (pre-assembly) and delivery of wind turbine components and their foundations.

The new terminal will have direct nautical access to the sea and will be equipped with heavy-duty piers and modern logistics facilities. With 835 meters of quay, the port will be able to receive state-of-the-art vessels, including those with capacity for
This project responds to the growing demand for specialized infrastructure for wind farms in the North Sea, the construction of which is accelerating due to the drive for a transition to renewable energy. According to the Port Authority, adequate port capacity with the necessary specifications is currently a limiting factor in the development of new offshore wind projects.
The new terminal is expected to be operational by mid-2029, providing the capacity and facilities necessary to meet future market demand. In addition to its focus on offshore wind farm construction, the terminal will also be equipped for the decommissioning of existing wind farms, enabling it to offer a full cycle of services to the industry.
Matthijs van Doorn, Vice President Commercial of the Port of Rotterdam Authority, noted, “With this new terminal, we are making a significant contribution to the capacity needed by the offshore wind sector. Thanks to its strategic location off the North Sea, its deep draft and the existence of an offshore wind cluster, the Port of Rotterdam is positioned as the ideal location for these activities.”
