Russian state-owned energy company Rosneft has announced the discovery of an oil field in the Pechora Sea, located off the Siberian coast of northwest Russia, estimated at approximately 82 million tons.
“82 million tons of extractable oil reserves have been put on the balance sheet of the State Reserves Commission. The field was named Madachágskoye and has become one of the largest discoveries on the Russian [continental] platform in recent times,” the company’s statement said.
“The oil extracted is light, low in sulfur and low in viscosity,” the company said.
Rosneft emphasized that one of its strategies in 2022 is to increase the efficiency of reserve replenishment with new discoveries. Thus, the company expects to replenish at least 100% of hydrocarbon production.
In addition, within the framework of exploration works carried out by Rosneft specialists in the waters of the Pechora Sea, the significant potential of the Timan-Pechora province on the continental shelf was confirmed.
