Repsol has formalized a strategic agreement with Schroders Greencoat, a British firm specializing in clean infrastructure, to integrate this fund as a partner with a 49% stake in a 400 MW portfolio in Spain . The package includes eight wind farms with an installed capacity of 300 megawatts and two solar plants totaling an additional 100 megawatts, distributed between the regions of Aragón and Castilla y León.
Value and control in one play
The joint portfolio has been valued at €580 million . Despite relinquishing its minority stake, Repsol will maintain operational and strategic control of the projects, thus consolidating its partner acquisition model to strengthen the profitability of its renewable energy business. All assets are expected to be operational during the first half of 2025.
The transaction includes a €348 million syndicated financing agreement structured with entities such as BBVA, Crédit Agricole CIB, Banco Sabadell, and ICO. This financial structure reinforces the solidity of the agreement and also facilitates the advancement of projects without compromising the Spanish energy company’s decarbonization goals.
Schroders Greencoat invests in Spain with a 400 MW portfolio
For Schroders Greencoat, this transaction represents the first investment in the European fund Schroders Greencoat Europe SCSp. The fund, recently launched with an initial capital of over €220 million , seeks to develop a diverse portfolio of assets aligned with Europe’s energy transformation, including renewable generation, energy storage , grids, and sustainable mobility.
This is the fifth such transaction undertaken by Repsol since 2021, consolidating a collaborative growth strategy in its renewable generation business. The company currently has 3,700 MW of renewable energy in operation and more than 60,000 MW in various stages of global development, with a strong position in the Spanish market.
