The shipping industry is moving toward electrification with the first on-water test of the REGENT seaglider . The Rhode Island-based company unveiled its Viceroy prototype, an all-electric ground-effect craft designed to transport passengers at high speed between coastal destinations.
Successful testing and technical validation of the seaglider
The 12-passenger Viceroy began testing in Narragansett Bay, where REGENT engineers verified its stability and electric propulsion systems . The craft, which combines hull-mounted travel, hydrofoil gliding and low-altitude flight, marked a step forward in sustainable mobility on water.
Stepping off the dock and onto the Viceroy prototype seaglider for the first time was a surreal experience.

The REGENT marine glider not only aims to transform passenger transport, but also offers logistics and emergency solutions. The company has successfully tested a scaled-down model and is now moving forward with the certification of its full version with the US Coast Guard.
This transport system combines the best of aviation and navigation to reduce operating costs and offer a sustainable alternative. With a maximum speed of 180 mph and a range of 180 miles, the vessel promises to transform connectivity between islands and coastal cities.

Expansion and strategic alliances
With an order book exceeding $9 billion , REGENT has secured partnerships with governments and shipping companies in several regions. In addition, the company has begun construction of a factory in Rhode Island and has signed agreements with Strategic Development Fund in Abu Dhabi to expand production.
The company is also working on defense and rescue projects with the U.S. Marine Corps, exploring applications for military logistics and emergency operations.
The future of electric shipping
With on-water trials underway and the first manned flight scheduled for mid-year, the REGENT seaglider is shaping up to be a key innovation in sustainable mobility . Its combination of speed, efficiency and zero emissions makes it an attractive option for the future of coastal transport.
