The mining company Ramaco Resources announced the creation of a critical mineral reserve at its Brook mine, located in Wyoming. This initiative seeks to strengthen the country’s mining infrastructure and ensure access to essential materials for strategic U.S. sectors.
A reserve of critical minerals for national self-sufficiency
The terminal, called the Strategic Critical Minerals Terminal (SCMT), is a response to the growing need for secure access to rare earths. rare earths and critical minerals for technology and defense applications. The project involves the participation of a national consultant specializing in the financial structuring of raw materials, with whom Ramaco is designing a comprehensive model for stockpiling, processing and distribution.
In addition to exploiting its own resources, Ramaco will offer maquila services to other producers, bringing resilience to the supply chain and logistical efficiency at the national level.
Logistical advantages of the Brook mine
BrookBrook, with more than 15,800 acres, has a prime location: direct access to the BNSF rail network and proximity to an interstate highway. This connectivity is essential to ensure the smooth delivery of materials to industrial manufacturers and defense contractors across the country.
Recent technical studies estimate that the mine contains more than 1.4 million tons of rare earth oxides, including strategic elements such as scandium, gallium and germanium. Added to this are significant concentrations of neodymium, dysprosium and terbium, essential for permanent magnets and advanced electronic systems.
Productive expansion with a national focus
Ramaco has updated its production plans to reach 3,400 tons per year of rare earth oxides and critical minerals, more than double the figure initially contemplated. This projection accompanies its parallel growth in coal coal extractioncoal mining, planned to increase from 2 to 5 million tons per year.
The company has acquired additional land for future exploration and storage expansion. These investments reaffirm its strategy to consolidate its position as a key supplier of materials that directly impact the security and technological autonomy of the United States.
With more than 75 patents and a carbon research center adjacent to the mine, Ramaco combines innovation, operational capability and strategic vision to insert itself into the new industrial map of critical minerals. Its SCMT terminal seeks to serve both public and private interests, balancing reliable access with commercial profitability.
