QatarEnergy has announced the construction of a large-scale fertilizer complex in the industrial city of Mesaieed. This mega-project aims to double the country’s urea production capacity, bringing annual production from 6 million tons to more than 12 million tons, which will consolidate Qatar as the world’s largest exporter of this key fertilizer.

During a press conference in Doha, His Excellency Mr. Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs and Chairman of the company, stressed that the project will strengthen Qatar’s position in the global market and play a crucial role in world food security.

We are expanding our expertise in the production of ammonia and urea, which will enable us to ensure a stable supply of these vital products to millions of people around the world.

The complex will include the construction of three new production lines of ammonia production lines and four urea production trains, which will take advantage of Mesaieed’s existing infrastructure, including its export port.

The first production line is expected to be operational before the end of the decade, with the entire project aligned to strengthen Qatar’s position as a global epicenter for urea production.
