PV GAS transports LNG by train for the first time in Vietnam

Petrovietnam Gas Corporation’s (PV GAS) LNG train marked a milestone in the transportation of liquefied natural gas by carrying this clean fuel from the south to the north of Vietnam. The inauguration ceremony took place at Trang Bom station in Dong Nai province, and was a significant moment for the company and the energy industry the country’s energy industry.

Faced with growing energy demand and lack of infrastructure in the north, PV GAS adopted an innovative multimodal transport solution, combining trucks and trains to bring LNG to regions where traditional facilities are not available .

PV GAS LNG train reduces emissions and improves transportation

This train, which transported 16 ISO tanks of LNG at -162 °C, demonstrates the company’s commitment to a more inclusive and efficient energy network. Also, with this operation, PV GAS completed a supply system that includes gas pipelineswaterways, roads, and now railroads.

This new step expands PV GAS’ coverage throughout Vietnam and reinforces its commitment to a greener energy future. LNG rail transport reduces CO₂ emissions by 30% compared to coal and 40% versus oil, making LNG a more environmentally friendly option.

PV GAS Vice President Nguyen Phuc Tue highlighted the corporation’s efforts to innovate and find new ways to meet energy challenges. In addition, Phan Quoc Anh, Vice President of Vietnam Railways, underlined the key role played by its partners in this success. Thanks to the collaboration with PV GAS, the LNG train will be prioritized to ensure fast delivery times, with an estimated transit time of only three days to the north of the country.
