Prosegur Cash, a leader in valuables logistics, has developed its first electric armoured vehicle in Spain . This innovative prototype, designed in collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) and the company TSD, marks a before and after in the transport of valuables, reducing the environmental impact without compromising operational security.
The need for a greener fleet
The main objective behind this prototype is the alignment of security and sustainability, two essential pillars in valuable logistics. Traditionally, armoured vehicles have been heavy due to the materials used to ensure the protection of goods and crew.
This high weight affected operational efficiency and implied high fuel consumption, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions . However, the new electrical armour developed by Prosegur Cash is 30% lighter thanks to the use of new advanced materials, such as ceramics, synthetic fibres and metal alloys.
This, in addition to facilitating the use of an electric chassis, also maintains the high standards of protection required by safety regulations, ensuring that the vehicle complies with rigorous ballistic and explosive resistance tests.
Innovation with an electric armored vehicle
The viability of the electric chassis in an armoured vehicle has been possible thanks to years of research and development, especially in the improvement of armouring materials. The advances achieved in collaboration with UPM allow Prosegur Cash’s electric armoured vehicle to reduce its carbon footprint and be suitable for operation in urban environments, where emissions restrictions are increasingly strict.
This electric armored vehicle has the capacity to reduce approximately 15 tons of CO2 per year , which is equivalent to the emissions generated by a combustion vehicle for more than 100,000 kilometers. This reduction contributes directly to climate change mitigation efforts and pollution control.
The key to this success has been research into new armouring compounds which, although lighter, meet the strength and durability requirements imposed by the UNE-EN 1063:2001 and UNE-EN 1522:1999 regulations.
A step towards the future of safe transport
Prosegur Cash, with the support of IDEA through the MOVES Proyectos Singulares II program , has not only managed to create an electric armored vehicle, but has also paved the way for a more ecological and efficient fleet. This advance is crucial in a sector where safety and energy efficiency must go hand in hand to ensure a more sustainable future.
The development of this electric armoured vehicle is a clear reflection of Prosegur Cash’s commitment to innovation and sustainability, laying the foundations for a new generation of vehicles in the logistics of valuables.
