Pivotree: tecnología submarina para campos de petróleo y gas

Pivotree™ represents a new approach to the development of oil and gas fields that, due to their size or location, do not justify the construction of conventional facilities. This system redefines the concept of “minimal facilities” by allowing operators to access previously unprofitable resources by dramatically reducing capital, operational and decommissioning costs.

How does Pivotree technology work?

The Pivotree™ mechanism includes a subsea Christmas tree system and a floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel. The tree acts as a mooring and control point for the FPSO , facilitating the management of the well flow through a set of valves and spools housed in steel structures that regulate the pressure.

The FPSO, for its part, is equipped with modular surface processing and separation facilities common on offshore platforms. This vessel is self-sufficient in energy terms, as it uses natural gas produced on site to power its generators and supports autonomous operations using ROVs and cranes for the maintenance of its components.

Additionally, Pivotree™’s design meets international security and control standards , offering the functionality of larger systems without increasing operational risks. This system allows for agile implementation, capable of moving between fields with the same underwater and surface equipment, thus optimizing the life cycle of each project.

Likewise, the agile development of the Pivotree™ facilitates rapid first oil production and minimizes both capital and operating costs by eliminating needs such as extensive pipelines and mooring turrets. In addition, the system is designed to have a lower environmental impact, integrating technologies to capture combustion gases and convert excess gas into liquid fuels, thus avoiding the usual burning of these gases.

At the end of its useful life in a field, the Pivotree™ system ensures that no waste is left on the seabed , setting a new standard in the cost of abandoning oil facilities.

The potential of Pivotree™ for the energy transition

Pivotree™ technology represents a solution for the efficient exploitation of less accessible oil and gas fields and also plays a crucial role in the energy transition. By providing a way to maximize production of existing resources with a lower environmental impact, Pivotree™ facilitates a smoother transition to cleaner, more sustainable energy sources.

Its ability to significantly reduce CO₂ emissions and convert natural gas into cleaner products underlines its alignment with global sustainability and energy efficiency goals.
