Petronor, the refinery located in Muskiz, Vizcaya, has announced the installation of an innovative Preflash tower to improve energy efficiency at its plant. This 60-ton, 30-meter-high tower, which will come online in June 2025, will allow the separation of products such as butane and gasoline without the need to heat them at high temperatures, representing a significant advance in energy optimization.
Petronor invests in the Preflash tower
Until now, Petronor ‘s Crude Unit 1 heated the oil to 360°C to separate the various products, but with this new facility, approximately 8% of these products will be separated before the heating process, reducing the energy demand in the furnace . This contributes to fuel savings and will improve the plant’s operational efficiency.

This project has an investment of 15 million euros and will have a positive impact on the environment, as it is expected to reduce CO₂ emissions by more than 16,000 tons per year.
