The Bahia Nitrogen Fertilizer Plant(FAFEN-BA), located in the Camaçari industrial park, is about to resume scheduled fertilizer production. Petrobras confirmed that the unit is in the final stages of maintenance and readiness, with a view to starting operations in January 2026. This return represents a step forward in the strategy to strengthen national autonomy in the production of strategic inputs for Brazilian agribusiness.

The beginning of controlled and technical fertilizer production

In recent days, technical teams have begun to activate essential services such as nitrogen, compressed air and cooling water. The activities are part of the commissioning phase, to verify safety and operational efficiency before restarting the processing units.

Simultaneously, Petrobras and Bahiagás signed a pipeline transportation contract to supply FAFEN-BA with 1.2 million cubic meters of natural gas per day, an essential raw material for ammonia and urea production.

The plant will resume ammonia production of ammoniaurea, pearl urea and ARLA-32These products are essential for the agro-industrial chain and for reducing emissions in transportation. It will also have logistical access to the ammonia and urea maritime terminals at the Port of Aratu, in Candeias, expanding its distribution capacity.

According to William França, Petrobras’ Industrial Processes and Products Director, the reactivation of FAFEN-BA strengthens the company’s industrial portfolio and provides an efficient solution for the internal consumption of gas produced in Brazil.
