During an operation carried out between November 10 and 17, Petrobras supplied three vessels of its subsidiary Transpetro with a renewable bunker that integrates 24% biofuel. The action took place at the São Sebastião Waterway Terminal(TEBAR), in the state of São Paulo, and represents a new step by the company in its strategy to decarbonize maritime transportation.
Supply by renewable biofuel bunker
The supply amounted to approximately 1,300 tons for the Zumbi dos Palmares ship, while the Rômulo Almeida and Carlos Drummond de Andrade ships received about 400 and 300 tons, respectively. The fuel used contains biodiesel produced by Petrobras Biocombustível(PBio) and can be used directly in the existing engines without the need for modifications.
This type of environmentally friendly bunker complies with the sulfur limits established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). International Maritime Organization (IMO).(IMO). Furthermore, its implementation reinforces Brazil’s positioning as a competitive supplier of sustainable energy technologies for the global shipping sector.
Claudio Schlosser, Petrobras’ Director of Logistics, Commercialization and Markets, mentioned that the operation at TEBAR is part of a larger effort to expand logistics capacity for the supply of renewable fuels both in Brazil and abroad. The initiative is in addition to the supply of renewable diesel during COP30 in Belém, used for transportation and electricity generation at the event.
The total volume supplied is equivalent to the estimated consumption of vessels used as floating accommodation during COP30. With this action, Petrobras reaffirms its commitment to reducing emissions and developing viable energy alternatives for commercial maritime transportation.
