New oil discovery!
US-based energy company Hess Corporation has announced a significant oil discovery in an exploration well located in the Gulf of Mexico.
According to Hess, plans are underway to connect this new oil discovery in the Pickerel-1 well, located in Mississippi Canyon block 727, to the Tubular Bells production platform in the US Gulf of Mexico. In the Tubular Bells field, Hess owns a 57.14% interest and acts as the main operator, while Chevron owns the remaining 42.86%.
Although the US company has not provided further details on this well, it has reported that it has encountered approximately 90 feet of net pay in a high-quality Miocene-age oil reservoir.
Hess reported that net production in the Gulf of Mexico during the second quarter of 2023 reached 32,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (booepd) , compared to 29,000 boepd in the same quarter of the previous year.
The Tubular Bells deepwater oil and gas field was discovered in 2003, located about 4,300 feet down and 135 miles southeast of New Orleans, primarily in the 724 block of Mississippi Canyon. A year after Hess took over the project, it was authorized in 2011 and accelerated, reaching oil production in just three years.
Tubular Bells employs the first classic spar built on American soil. Both the design and the construction were carried out entirely in the United States, generating around 7,000 direct and indirect jobs in Texas and Louisiana. Oil and gas are transported ashore via two separate 12-inch export lines.
