The commissioning of the President Néstor Kirchner (GPNK) gas pipeline represents a great advance.

Last week the filling process of the Néstor Kirchner Gas Pipeline was successfully completed and once the necessary tests have been carried out on the valves that connect it to the Neuba II trunk, it will be ready to supply up to 11 million cubic meters of gas extracted from Vaca Muerta.

This 573 kilometer long pipeline now houses the 25 million cubic meters of gas coming from Vaca Muerta and operations are currently underway to commission (open and close) the remaining 17 valves, thus completing the safety protocol.

After completing this final testing phase, it is estimated that the connection with the Neuba II will be made within 3 or 4 days, which will be in charge of transporting the gas to the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area.

The official inauguration of the GPNK took place on July 9, at an event held in Salliqueló. During this act, the last valve of the first section was opened and once the gas pipeline filling process was completed, the connection with the main gas system could be established.

Néstor Kirchner gas pipeline: work in record time

The construction of the GPNK was carried out by the state company Energía Argentina together with the private companies Techint, Sacde and BTU. This impressive work was carried out exceptionally quickly, with a record time of only 178 days from the first welding, on November 16 in Salliqueló, to the last one, on May 12 near Reforma, in La Pampa.

During the construction process, an average of five kilometers of pipes per day were welded on the three work fronts, using approximately 300,000 tons of pipes. The magnitude of this project involved 5,500 direct workers and 40,000 indirect workers throughout the area of influence.

The connection between the President Néstor Kirchner and Neuba II gas pipelines, the latter inaugurated in 1988, is located at the Saturno plant of the transportation company TGS, which was also awarded the operation and maintenance of the new pipeline for the next five years.
