Offshore drilling specialist Noble has secured a new contract with bp to carry out six firm wells on the Northern Endurance Partnership(NEP) Project, a strategic piece of the UK’s carbon storage infrastructure. This work will be carried out using the Noble Innovator rig from Q3 2026 with an extension option for two additional wells.

The Northern Endurance Partnership project

This agreement builds on previous collaboration between the two companies and underscores the role played by bp s role as operator of the NEP consortium, a key initiative for achieving the country’s climate goals.

The NEP is designed to capture and store millions of tons of carbon dioxidecarbon dioxide per year, transported from industrial clusters located on the east coast of the country. per year, transported from industrial clusters located on the east coast of the country. The infrastructure will confine CO₂ in geological formations beneath the seabed in one of Europe’s most advanced carbon capture and storage(CCS) projects.

Supporting the Northern Endurance Partnership reinforces our role in providing the well infrastructure necessary for the UK’s net zero emissions ambitions.

Blake Denton, Noble’s Senior Vice President of Marketing and Contracts.

The Noble Innovator rig, which will be responsible for executing the drilling, has demonstrated operational efficiency in demanding situations. In addition, the deployment in the North Sea will help consolidate a network of CO₂ injection wells with high safe confining capacity.

With this contract, bp and Noble strengthen their position in the field of clean technologies applied to offshore exploration and production. In addition, the NEP is integrated as an essential component in the national decarbonization plan.

Thus, advancing the NEP represents a climate goal and an opportunity to strengthen industrial and technological capacity in large-scale carbon storage from the UK offshore.
