The vessel Saputi II, the new freezer trawler of the Canadian shipowner Qikiqtaaluk Fisheries Corporation, has completed its launching at the facilities of Astilleros Freire in Vigo. This new vessel represents a step forward in the expansion of the fishing fleet and the commitment to sustainable fishing.

Saputi II state-of-the-art trawler

Designed by Skipsteknisk and advised by Allswater Marine Consultants, the Saputi II was built to operate in the demanding waters of the Arctic. At 79 meters in length and 17 meters in beam, it has a capacity for 34 crew members and a Wärtsilä high-efficiency, low-emission engine. In addition, its onboard technology features automated systems for catching, sorting, cooking, freezing and robotic palletizing.

The launching of the vessel is fundamental for the fishing industry. First of all, this vessel will have a specialized mission in catching shrimp and Greenland halibut in Greenland and Canadian waters. In addition, the Saputi II will enable the Canadian company to improve its operational efficiency and strengthen its efforts to protect marine ecosystems.

Qikiqtaaluk Fisheries Corporation CEO Harry Flaherty highlighted his pride in the integration of the Saputi II into the fleet, demonstrating the vessel’s potential to improve operations and environmental commitments.

Likewise, Freire’s general managers, Marcos and Guillermo Freire, celebrated the collaboration in a project that marks the development of sustainable fishing in the Arctic region. Therefore, this naval vessel is a working tool, and a symbol of innovation and environmental responsibility.
