U.S.-based New Fortress Energy (NFE) has obtained final approval to enter into a natural gas supply contract for natural gas supply contract with the government of Puerto Rico, in a decisive step towards the transformation of the island’s electricity system.
Gas supply as a basis for energy stability
The agreement provides for the supply of approximately 75 billion British thermal units (TBtu) of natural gas over a seven-year period. This volume will strengthen the stability of the Puerto Rican electricity grid and ensure a more predictable energy source in the face of the volatility of oil and other more polluting sources.
With this measure, Puerto Rico is committed to cleaner cleaner and more efficient and efficient electricity generation. The natural gas supplied by NFE will be low-emission, which will contribute to reducing the environmental impact of the local energy system. In addition, the continuity of supply ensures vital support in times of high demand or emergency.
NFE deepens its presence on the island
The company, which already operates energy infrastructure in Puerto Rico, thus strengthens its strategic link with local authorities. According to Wes Edens, CEO of
A steady supply of natural gas not only improves the quality of electric service, but also acts as an economic catalyst. A stable, modern grid is essential to attract investment, foster industrial growth and improve the quality of life for citizens.
