ACCIONA Energía has taken a significant step in its commitment to sustainability with the opening of a new hybrid wind and solar plant in Cuenca . This facility is now part of its Peralejo wind farm (which already generates clean energy) and adds a photovoltaic plant with a capacity of 19.7 MWp.
With this combination, both infrastructures will produce enough energy to supply 26,000 homes per year , a figure that reflects the company’s growing commitment to renewable energy .
The production of the new hybrid plant
The new solar plant will produce 37 GWh per year, equivalent to the consumption of more than 10,600 homes. This achievement will also prevent the emission of more than 38,000 tons of CO₂ , which is equivalent to planting two million trees or removing 15,000 cars from circulation.
By using a hybrid strategy, where solar and wind energy use the same connection to the electricity grid , ACCIONA Energy optimises resources and reduces environmental impact. In this way, it minimises the construction of new infrastructure, such as power lines and substations.
This project has generated more than 100 jobs during its construction and is aligned with the company’s Social Impact Management (SIM) program . Through this plan, the company supports various local initiatives, such as the improvement of the Santos Sebastián e Isidro olive oil cooperative, the economic engine of Villalba del Rey, and sponsors children’s sporting events in the area.
In addition to Peralejo, ACCIONA Energía also operates the Escepar hybrid plant and the Bolarque photovoltaic plant in the same region, consolidating Villalba del Rey and Tinajas as benchmarks in the transition towards a more sustainable energy model in Cuenca. Thanks to these types of initiatives, the company continues to lead the change towards a cleaner and more stable energy future.
