The consortium led by the Namibian National Petroleum Corporation (Namcor) has initiated the second phase of the community engagement process under the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the development of the Venus offshore project, located in Block 2913B, some 320 kilometers southwest of Lüderitz.
The development of the Venus marine project
This marine field, jointly promoted by TotalEnergies EP Namibia BV, QatarEnergy International E&P LLC and Impact Oil & Gas, continues to progress in compliance with Namibian environmental legislation. Current regulations require a rigorous process of consultation and transparency prior to any intervention in sensitive marine areas.
During the first phase, carried out in early 2025, information sessions were organized in different localities in the south and west of the country. These meetings were used to define the key social and environmental aspects to be studied, with the participation of community stakeholders, local representatives and technical specialists.
Now, in this second round, the focus is on presenting the findings of the preliminary ESIA report. This document has been prepared by SLR Namibia in conjunction with Urban Dynamics Africa, and analyzes issues such as atmospheric emissions, marine ecology, socio-economic impacts and mitigation proposals.
The documents are available for review from November 3 through December 3, 2025. The open house sessions will include formal presentations and dialogue spaces for citizens to express concerns or suggestions.
The Venus offshore field represents one of the most important energy initiatives for Namibia in the coming years. For this reason, the authorities and companies involved stress the importance of a joint construction of the project, based on information, inclusion and environmental sustainability.
