CSSC delivered the “MSC Celestino Maresca”, MSC’s 24,116 TEU megamax vessel. The ship is a sister ship to “MSC Tessa”, and to the slightly larger “MSC Irina”, built by YZJ, which is currently the world’s largest container ship, Alphaliner reports.
MSC ‘s latest ship is the second of eight “Hudong 24100” twins the shipping company will take delivery from China’s CSSC Group before the end of the year. In particular, the “MSC CELESTINO MARESCA” is owned by BoCom Leasing, a 100% subsidiary of Bank of Communications of China, and has joined MSC under a long-term charter agreement.
Characteristics
CSSC-built MSC ships are 399.99m long and 61.50m (24 rows) wide. The ships, equipped with scrubber, are conventionally powered by a WinGD-11 X92 main engine. They can reach a service speed of 22.5 knots and provide plugs for 2,024 reefer containers.
MSC will deploy both “MSC TESSA” and “MSC CELESTINO MARESCA” on its Far East – Europe ‘Lion’ service, which is offered in association with Maersk (‘AE6’).
Deliveries
It should be remembered that among the ships that have been delivered to MSC this year is the “MSC IRINA”, with 24,346 TEUs; “MSC TESSA” of 24,116 TEUs and the “MSC DARIA” of 15,264 TEUs.
This year, MSC is the carrier that will receive by far the most newbuild tonnage, including numerous “megamax” (MGX) and “neopanamax” (NPX) vessels. Even after the latest deliveries, the shipping company’s huge newbuild program still comprises 128 vessels of over 1.70 million TEUs.
