The renewed agreement between MODEC and Terra Drone seeks to improve inspection operations in crude oil storage tanks on FPSO platforms for greater efficiency, safety and accuracy through advanced UAV technology.
Innovations in tank inspections at FPSO
During fiscal year 2024, the MODEC-Terra Drone MODEC-Terra Drone achieved concrete advances in the field of industrial inspection. Among the main records was the integration of optimized ultrasonic sensors that have significantly improved the accuracy of technical measurements.
In addition, a gas detectorwas integrated into the dronesto increase safety in closed and potentially hazardous environments such as crude oil tanks. In addition, the use of a new, improved wire brush allowed up to 10 times more inspections to be performed during the same period.
Continuous power supply through a connected cable minimized the need for landings for battery exchange, optimizing work times and reducing operational risks. This renewed agreement for fiscal year 2025 is focused on perfecting the drone’s structure and developing new measurement technologies.
Moreover, redesigning the airframe to improve its maintainability, stability and robustness will facilitate its global deployment in different locations. The integration of high-resolution cameras and reinforced mooring cables will also contribute to increased inspection capacity in large tanks.
In addition, advanced explosion-proof measures will be implemented for cabled systems and the design will be optimized to facilitate the aerial transport of drones, responding to logistical needs in international operations.
