Peru Mines Strike USD 596 Million in Projects

According to a statement from the Peruvian Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) , there is currently a portfolio of 74 mining exploration projects amounting to USD 596 million and located in 17 regions of the country.

The Minem reported that, of the 74 projects, 30 are in execution or about to start that stage, having all the permits granted by the Minem and representing an investment of USD 134 million, that is, 22.5% of the total amount of the portfolio. .

“Exploration is a fundamental process for the development of mining, because it constitutes the first link of the most important economic activity in Peru, allowing the discovery of new deposits, as well as the extension of the useful life of the mines that are in the area. operation, which generates resources for the benefit of the country”, indicated the Ministry.

Likewise, Minem specified that most of the projects, that is, 39, are copper, which amount to USD 284 million. In second place, there are projects related to gold and they will require a disbursement of USD 220 million.

“Regarding the regions, the portfolio indicates that the Cajamarca region maintains leadership with three projects: La Zanja, Colorado and Algamarca, which add up to an investment of USD 124 million (20.8% of the global amount). Ancash ranks second with a participation of 15.6% of the exploration budget, represented in 10 projects with an investment of USD 93 million,” the Ministry indicated.

In third position, the portfolio specified, Arequipa is located, representing 12.7% of the total investment in the exploration portfolio distributed in 10 projects and with a joint investment of USD 76 million.
