As part of Sweden’s Focus Asia strategy, Minesto participated this week in a high-level mission to South Korea together with representatives from government, industry and the Swedish delegation. The objective: to open up new routes of cooperation for the global energy transition.
Swedish royalty and delegation supported by ocean technology
Minesto, a Swedish tidal energy developer, was invited by Business Sweden to join a delegation that included Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Daniel and key Swedish cabinet ministers. This visit sought to strengthen bilateral collaboration with South Korea, one of the Asian markets with the greatest potential for ocean energy.
Minesto CEO Dr. Martin Edlund played an active role during the Sustainable Partnership Summit between Sweden and South Korea, held on October 16. At the meeting, government and business leaders from both countries discussed technology cooperation routes for the green transition. Edlund highlighted how Minestos ocean current-based technology can be integrated into the South Korean energy plan.
With favorable geographic conditions and an evolving energy policy, South Korea represents a strategic platform for technologies such as Minesto’s. The nation is among the few Asian countries with consistent access to tidal currents, making it an ideal environment for commercial ocean energy pilots.
Together with Minesto, leading companies such as Atlas Copco, Ericsson, Hexicon, Hitachi Energy, EQT Group and Tetra Pak participated in the mission. The focus was to identify investment and sustainable development opportunities, positioning Sweden as a strategic partner in renewable energy solutions.
Minesto’s participation in this initiative reflects its strategy of expansion into regions with high energy potential. By integrating diplomatic, industrial and scientific efforts, Sweden is advancing its influence in the global energy transition with a concrete offer of innovative solutions such as tidal energy.
