Nauticus Robotics, a Houston-based company, has obtained a additional funding of $2.7 million under its current contract with Leidos, a US defense and technology services company specializing in offering integrated services and solutions ranging from cybersecurity and artificial intelligence, to promote the development of an underwater platform derived from the revolutionary Aquanaut.

This unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) has an advanced artificial intelligence system and detection capabilities that allows it to carry out various tasks without jeopardizing the safety of divers.

Since 2022, the program has received a total investment of $14.5 million from Leidos, demonstrating the commitment of both companies to innovation in this field.

More details of the Nauticus project

According to Nauticus, the additional funding will allow further development of this Aquanaut-derived platform, preparing it for customer adoption and government opportunities expected later this year.

Like the Aquanaut, its commercial predecessor, this derivative robot is equipped with cutting-edge technology that supports underwater security activities and is advancing rapidly to complete longer and more challenging missions.

In addition, this latest financial recognition will allow improvements in the autonomous behavior and operational capabilities of toolKITT, the exclusive software package developed by Nauticus, which is essential to create an ecosystem of autonomous actions for underwater vehicles and lays the foundation for future advances in this field.

“I am extremely proud of our team’s performance, which has resulted in this additional recognition, further cementing our partnership with Leidos,” said Nicolaus Radford, Nauticus founder and CEO. “This very important work combines the great attributes of both companies to deploy a truly innovative subsea capability.”

As a reminder, last month Nauticus Robotics began a commissioning phase for the first batch of three second generation autonomous underwater robots, known as Mark 2 (MK2), which are an evolution of the successful Aquanaut.
