Meta and Sage Geosystems collaboration has announced a new collaboration with Sage Geosystems for the expansion of a geothermal energy project and its advanced applications for Data Centers in the United States.

A geothermal energy project

This partnership, unveiled during a U.S. Department of Energy workshop, aims to implement Sage’s geopressurized geothermal(GGS) technology, an innovation capable of generating clean energy in regions where it was previously not viable.

The first phase of the project is expected to be operational in 2027, with a capacity of up to 150 MW of geothermal energysufficient for the growth and sustainability of Meta’s data centers. In addition, this technology is based on“hot dry rock mining,” an abundant and underutilized resource that promises to be key in the transition to a more stable and secure power grid.

Meta is one of the largest corporate buyers of renewable energy globally, with more than 12,000 MW contracted. This collaboration with Sage Geosystems strengthens the company’s commitment to innovation and new energy, exploring and pushing boundaries to ensure that future operations are carbon-free.
