MEM invests more than RD 4 million in electrification projects

The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) of the Dominican Republic , through its Directorate of Urban and Suburban Electrification (DERS), inaugurated two projects for electrification, extension and rehabilitation of conventional networks, with an investment of more than RD four million .

The projects were carried out in the La Piedra community, in the municipality of Fantino, and in the Fe y Alegría high school, in the Comedero Arriba municipal district, in the province of Sánchez Ramírez.

During the ceremony, the Minister of Energy and Mines, Antonio Almonte, stressed that President Luis Abinader’s objective is to bring electricity service to all corners of the Dominican Republic through the Carrying Light program, so that all communities can develop their activities through the use of electricity.

In addition, Almonte emphasized that, with the electrification of these localities, the inhabitants will be able to take better advantage of vegetables, fruits, meats, cooked foods, liquid foods and others that require refrigeration to be properly preserved.

The Government, headed by President Abinader and through the MEM, led by engineer Almonte, made an economic investment in the amount of RD 4,000,545.58, to benefit 30 families and a population of 150 inhabitants. The project has an extension of 2,000 meters of medium voltage and low voltage line, 33 poles, 12 250-watt LED lamps, 30 electrical connections for homes and an installed power of 85 KVA.

Almonte also highlighted that the Government has made great efforts to respond to the growing electricity demand, which has risen by 19.9% compared to 2020 due to the increase in the country’s economic activities. The minister stressed that they have managed to counteract the demand with the installation of new energy projects, mainly based on renewable sources, to guarantee that all Dominicans have stable electricity service.

The inauguration of these projects is one more step in the Government’s commitment to bring energy to all corners of the country, with electrification projects that allow Dominicans, regardless of their place of residence, to carry out their activities under equal conditions that those who reside in urban areas.

In addition, with this work, the beneficiaries will have greater facility to carry out technical training activities in trades and traditional and modern occupations, through the use of technologies that work with electrical energy.

Government guarantees social and economic development in Sánchez Ramírez with electrification projects

The governor of the Sánchez Ramírez province, Cristina Rodríguez, stressed that this work demonstrates the commitment of President Abinader to reach the most hidden places in the country, thus changing the lives of the beneficiaries, since development goes hand in hand with service electric. For his part, the director of the DERS, Francisco Cornelio, stressed that, with the implementation of these electrification projects, the Government guarantees social, economic and agricultural development.

The activity was attended by Rafael Gómez, Vice Minister of Energy; Fausto Pérez, Vice Minister of Energy Security and Infrastructure; Gerardo Concepción, deputy for Sánchez Ramírez; Martín Rosa, municipal mayor of Comedero Arriba; Francisco Espino, mayor of Caballero, and the priest Fidel Mecongo, who blessed the work and stressed that “where light comes, development comes.” All of them expressed their satisfaction with the project and the positive impact it will have on the quality of life of the inhabitants of the area.
